STEVE LE ROUX

Pastor

Steve was born in South Africa with Craniosynostosis, a birth defect in which an infant’s skull prematurely fuses by turning into bone.  After tracing severe brain damage, physicians predicted mental disability, a malformed face, and a life of constant pain.  However, Steve’s parents were believers, and they called on “The Lord our Healer” by starting a nationwide prayer chain for Steve’s healing.  Before a complicated brain surgery, the Holy Spirit laid it on his mother’s heart to follow the example of Samuel’s mother, Hannah, by dedicating her son’s life to the Lord.  The surgery was a success, and the new brain scans revealed that there was no longer trace of any brain damage.  Steve’s life started with a miracle.

Since a very young age Steve had always sensed God’s call to ministry.  He gave his life to the Lord as a small child and started growing in the Word.  After a period of teenage rebellion, he realized that he was heading for self-destruction, so he truly dedicated his life to the Lord in college.  Through studying Theology, he recognized a God-given passion to teach the Bible and to see people’s lives transformed as they mature in Christ.  God led Steve to become a school teacher and he later realized that this was all part of his training and preparation for ministry.  Teaching gave him the opportunity to travel and live in various countries including South Africa, Kenya, Sudan, England, Taiwan and America.  Steve has been the pastor of two church plants in Wallace and Raleigh, and he’s been the pastor at Rose Hill Baptist Church since 2017.  Steve also serves as chaplain at Harrell’s Christian Academy, and in 2020 he received his PhD in Theology through North West University in South Africa.

Becca, his wife, grew up in Rose Hill and has always been very close to her family.  She gave her life to the Lord at an early age.  One of her greatest childhood memories is singing hymns with her great grandmother.  After graduating from Wallace-Rose Hill High School, Becca attended North Carolina State University, where she received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English.  Like Steve, she has a passion for teaching and helping others learn.  Becca teaches English at Wallace Rose Hill High School.

How did the paths of a small town girl and a world traveler collide?  In 2007 Steve and Becca went on a mission trip to South Africa where they became close friends, and soon afterwards their relationship developed.  Steve planned a surprise trip to Paris and proposed to Becca, and she said, “of course!”  They were married in December of 2008 and moved to Raleigh in 2010.  There, they founded a non-profit ministry called Touching Hearts, which supports mission outreaches to orphanages in South Africa.  They enjoyed their time in “the big city” of Raleigh:  growing together, teaching, and ministering.  However, when their family of two became three, Steve and Becca decided to move back to Rose Hill to be closer to Becca’s family.  They welcomed their first child, Charlotte (Lottie) Le Roux, July 14, 2017, just one day after Becca’s birthday.  Steve and Becca love the Lord, and are grateful for God’s grace and mercy on their lives and family.Steve was born in South Africa with Craniosynostosis, a birth defect in which an infant’s skull prematurely fuses by turning into bone.
